HISTORY
As one of the first clubs in the Coachella Valley, the history of The Springs is significant not just to our members and residents, but to the greater community. As we celebrate our 50th year we look back on the memories and milestones that have made The Springs the unique and welcoming place that it is.
The Springs Country Club began thanks to the vision of Edwin Johnsen, a successful California land developer. In the early 1970s, Johnsen recognized the potential of an extraordinary property in Rancho Mirage and struck a deal based on a simple handshake.
His pioneering spirit laid the foundation for what would become a prestigious community in the Coachella Valley. The name "The Springs" was inspired by a common nickname for Palm Springs among Hollywood elites.
In 1974, the first homes were constructed, offering spacious layouts, numerous pools, and immaculate common areas. The design of the community was intentional, providing easy access to Palm Springs, the airport, and world-class amenities while maintaining a sense of privacy and tranquility.
The Springs was not just about luxury but about creating a tight-knit, welcoming community where lifelong friendships could thrive.
October 7, 1975, marked the establishment of The Springs Club, a cornerstone of the community. Designed by renowned architect Desmond Muirhead, the golf course quickly became a highlight, attracting members with its challenging layout and stunning views of the San Jacinto Mountains.
The clubhouse, a 48,000-square-foot masterpiece, was designed to host grand events and social gatherings, fostering a vibrant social scene that continues to this day.
